Level Up - All Crafts - Gauge and Blocking - July 11, 2026 (1)

What is gauge and blocking and why does it matter? When do you pin things? When don’t you? How do you measure gauge and what information does that give you? Why does fiber content matter? We will work a plain swatch and a patterned swatch to illustrate the difference between various blocking techniques.
Supplies Required: (all supplies available at Prairie Fiber Arts Center)
Any size needles or hook
2 different fiber contents of the same weight yarn appropriate for tool
Small bowl for wetting swatches (not available at PFAC. A cereal bowl will suffice.)
Blocking mats
Blocking pins
Measuring tape
Must know basic stitches with confidence. Must be able to work a 20 stitch and 20 row swatch in under 30 minutes.
Knit: Cast on, knit, purl, bind off, various increases and decreases.
Crochet: Chain, single crochet, double crochet, various increases and decreases.
Tunisian: Chain, Tunisian Simple Stitch, Tunisian Purl Stitch, bind off, various increases and decreases.
If you need to purchase supplies the day of class, please arrive 15 minutes early to complete your purchases before class begins.
Maximum 6 participants per class. Lefties and righties welcome! I can teach both!
